Welcome to the new EKPEAA web site.
We hope to make this site useful for those of concerned about quality of life and environmental issues on the eastern Kenai, from Seward to Portage, Cooper Landing to Hope. We cover the Chugach National Forest and Kenai Fjords National Park. If there is an issue bugging you, let us know, may be we can help.

Large Tank Farm Planned For Seward.
xxxx The project has been tabled but Yukon fuel assures us they will be back as soon as the venture can be made more profitable. They also sent the clear message that local opposition is none of thier concern. A company representative recently said “This project will be great for our companys owners and our customers”.The benefits to Seward are less evident. See more on our Issues page.

Contact the Alaska Railroad at public_comments@akrr.com and the Seward city council to tell them you think this is a bad idea.

Who or What is EKPEAA?

The Eastern Kenai Peninsula Environmental Action Association had its start about 9 years ago in Seward as a group of people who wanted a collective voice to ensure a quality of life in our neck of the woods. It has continued as an organization dedicated to facilitating group and individual action.

Don’t be put off by the fact that we have “environmental” in our name. Although “environmentalists” have been labled “enemys if the state” by our new governor you would be suprised to find that you to may be sympathetic, at least sometimes to the positions taken by these so called enemys. Remember the famous phrase by Pogo—“We have met the enemy and it is us.”

We are funded entirely by local donations. Most of our financial support over the years has come from Seward, Moose Pass, Hope, Cooper Landing and a few folks in Anchorage. Several local businesses have generously supported EKPEAA. They recognize the proven reality that a healthy economy is dependant on a healthy environment. If you would like to support us, we would be very appreciative. If you would like to donate time, energy or skills, so much the better.
